FSHS girls, LHS boys qualify for state meet

? The Free State girls and the Lawrence High boys cross country teams qualified for the state meet on Saturday at the 6A regional at Olathe Lake.

The LHS boys, led by top finisher Roy Wedge (17:04.15), placed second behind Shawnee Mission Northwest. All seven of the Lions’ runners finished in the top 18.

Free State’s Logan Sloan (17:41.90) and Kain Anderson (18:03.58) qualified as individuals.

The Free State girls finished second behind Shawnee Mission South. The Firebirds’ Kyra Kilwein was the top girls finisher with a time of 15:51.94.

Lawrence’s Stefanie Stuever (16:41.91) finished eighth to qualify as an individual.

In the 4A regional at Bonner Springs, Baldwin qualified both its boys and girls teams for state. The Baldwin boys finished first, lead by top finisher Tony Weiss (16:48.59). The Baldwin girls also won. Corinna Papps (15:49.46) finished second to lead the Bulldogs.

Eudora’s Ivan Espinosa (17:54.57) and Kaya Reimann (17:22.34) also qualified.

At the 1A regional in Mahattan, the Seabury boys team qualified for state with a third-place finish. And the Seahawks’ Hanna Spomer (18:41) qualified as an individual.
