The Lawrence-Douglas County unit of the NAACP will have its 2008 Freedom Fund Brunch and Awards Ceremony at 8 a.m. Saturday at Maceli’s, 1031 N.H.

The banquet benefits the unit’s scholarship fund and branch operations. Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling Donna Bell at 842-5926 or by sending an e-mail to info@douglasconaacp.org. Information on the event is also available at douglasconaacp.org.

The theme is “Power, Justice, Freedom, Vote,” and state Rep. Barbara Ballard, of Lawrence, will be the keynote speaker.
