Lawrence resident Rick Sheridan recently accepted a full-time visiting professor position at Wilberforce University in Wilberforce, Ohio.

Sheridan will teach communication and journalism classes and serve as faculty adviser for the school’s newspaper.

Wilberforce University is the nation’s oldest private African-American university; it was founded in 1856, prior to the end of slavery.

Sheridan is a 1975 Lawrence High School graduate who received a master’s degree from Kansas University in 1988.
