Search firms narrowed in superintendent hunt

The Lawrence school board heard presentations Monday from the three search firms, picked as finalists to help find Superintendent Randy Weseman’s replacement. No decision was made at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive, but the board voted to hold a special meeting prior to next Monday’s school board meeting to discuss the matter further.

Board member John Mitchell motioned to hire Glenview, Ill., firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, but that motion was tabled by a 5 to 2 vote. The board agreed to also consider the proposal from Ray and Associates, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

It voted to eliminate from consideration Omaha-based McPherson/Jacobsen.

The two advancing firms promised to find a superintendent that would mesh well with Lawrence.

“It’s about fit. It’s about wanting to stay here,” said David Smith, representing Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates.
