Automatic raises

To the editor:

There is much congressional outrage over the AIG expenditure of tax money. Do you think there will be congressional outrage over about the same amount of taxpayer money going into their own pockets as an automatic raise?

This is the time of year that we usually hear that an approximately $6,000 raise is to be bestowed upon our congressmen. Thanks to legislation passed in 1989, it is an automatic yearly raise. Do you think they deserve a raise this year?

Haven’t we learned that anything past two terms is well past the “use-by” date? The freshness is gone and corruption is setting in solidly! Isn’t it time to send all new congressmen from all the states and tell them to repeal the automatic raises? Repeal is an action open to them.
