Coroner issues report on July fatality

According to a Shawnee County coroner’s report, a Lawrence man was thrown about 200 feet from his vehicle that rolled several times during an accident last July.

In a report released Friday, deputy coroner Dr. Altaf Hossain also said toxicology tests revealed that Travis E. Evans, 33, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.211. The legal limit to drive in Kansas is 0.08.

Evans was the only person in a 2006 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, which rolled several times about 3 a.m. on July 22 on U.S. Highway 75 south of Topeka.

Sheriff’s officers have said Evans was driving the vehicle north at a high speed when it rolled.

Evans was not wearing a seat belt, and he died from “multiple blunt force traumatic injuries,” according to Hossain’s report.
