Candidate forums are on TV, Internet

Three recent candidate forums sponsored by the local Voter Education Coalition will be rebroadcast on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6 before the Nov. 4 general election.

The taped forums also are available on demand on Sunflower Broadband and at the Election 2008 link on LJWorld.com.

The Sept. 30 forum featuring the Kansas Senate races between Sen. Marci Francisco and Scott Morgan and between Rep. Tom Holland and Sen. Roger Pine will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 and 10:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

The Oct. 2 Douglas County Commission forum featuring the races between Jim Flory and Ken Grotewiel and between David L. Brown and Nancy Thellman will run at 7 p.m. Oct. 20 and 7 p.m. Oct. 30.

The U.S. House forum featuring Rep. Nancy Boyda and State Treasurer Lynn Jenkins will be broadcast at 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 3.

Replays also will be scheduled for the fourth and final forum in the VEC series, scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Free State High School auditorium.

That forum will feature candidates for two contested seats in the Kansas House: Democrat Tony Brown and Republican John Coen in 10th District and Republican Tom Sloan and Democrat John Wilson in the 45th District.

At 8 p.m. the forum will focus on two candidates for the 4th District seat on the Kansas State Board of Education: Democrat Carolyn Campbell and Republican Robert Meissner.

Three broadcasts of that forum are scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 21, 8:30 p.m. Oct. 23 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30.
