KU groups to host Hunger Banquet

The Kansas University Student Union Activities and Oxfam will host their third annual Hunger Banquet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Big 12 Room at the Kansas Union.

The meal and service provided to attendees will be determined by the random drawing of cards designating an income group. For instance, those in the high-income group will have wait staff and a full meal, while those in the low-income group will sit on the floor and receive only rice.

Social Issues Coordinator for SUA, Briana Saunders, said the event is designed to help participants “understand in a visual way the extremes of global poverty.”

The event is free and open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to pick up a voucher for the program at the SUA box office on the fourth floor of the Student Union.
