Fire department plans open house

Fire Prevention Week wraps up Saturday, and from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, the Reno Township Fire Department is inviting the public to its fire house to see extrication demonstrations, view equipment and even take a seat in fire engines.

Connie Torneden, secretary/treasurer of the Reno Township Fire Department, said the open house lets the public get to know local firefighters, who are all volunteers.

“It lets people know that we’re here,” she said. “There are always new people moving into the community, and we’re always looking for volunteers … to join the department and do the training.”

Torneden said children will be able to try on firefighter equipment, and firefighters will display equipment and explain the different uses of their tools.

Torneden said an air ambulance helicopter may be on-site, if scheduling permits.

The fire department is located at 12755 238th St. in Linwood, north of Kansas Highway 32.
