Police say student ran into car before Free State Homecoming parade

A 15-year-old Free State High School student was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with minor injuries after running into the side of a car Friday shortly before the school’s homecoming parade.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Paul Fellers, a 42-year-old woman was driving south on Wakarusa Drive in the right hand lane about 2:50 p.m. Fellers said Jacob Bart was standing behind a sidewalk in the 600 block of Wakarusa Drive with a group of students, and he jumped out, ran into the roadway and hit the side of the car.

The student’s condition is not yet available.
