Tonganoxie man charged with falsely reporting he was shot

? A Tonganoxie man who is charged with falsely reporting that an intruder shot him last July will appear in Leavenworth County District Court later this month.

Johnathan D. Wilkerson, 24, is charged with one count of falsely reporting a crime – a misdemeanor.

On July 11, Wilkerson told Tonganoxie police that he had been shot by a 5-foot-10 black man wearing a white T-shirt who had broken into his stepfather’s Tonganoxie home.

The report sparked a manhunt that included the Basehor Police Department, Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol troopers. Law enforcement searched for the suspect with dogs.

Wilkerson’s non-lifethreatening injuries were treated and he was released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital the same day.

Wilkerson also is charged with two other misdemeanors – one count of criminal use of a financial card on Aug. 5, and unlawfully and intentionally obtained or exerted unauthorized control over property worth less than $1,000 on Aug. 3. He is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 24.
