Not a ‘bailout’

To the editor:

The media and the U.S. House of Representatives have left the American economy in shambles by calling the current financial crisis a “Wall Street bailout.” If the “bailout” was going to cost each and every American $2,295, the congressional “no” vote cost each and every American $3,935 (based on 305 million Americans with a loss of $1.2 trillion of value in the market on Monday).

It was not a bailout; it was a plan to keep America out of a deep depression! I hope the members of Congress who voted against the plan can explain to their people why they are not smart enough to represent their best interests. It is noteworthy that representatives who were in close races voted politically as a block (both Republican and Democrat) against the plan, while others that were confident in their role as leaders voted for the plan.
