Neighborhood fun

To the editor:

I am miffed by what the Centennial Neighborhood is so upset by! My family’s favorite memories stem from the fact that we lived across the street from Wyandotte High School, a very large 6A school at the time. The cars that rolled in on Friday nights meant excitement in the neighborhood, not despair. It made a pretty vibrant neighborhood too. Going to games, even if there was not a family member as a student, was good inexpensive entertainment. It was just pretty darn fun!

Now for the concerns I had while my daughter played soccer at Lawrence High School a few years ago. Here we have a large 6A school with nowhere to practice at the school — pretty unbelievable! I can think of more than one fender-bender while rushing to Holcomb after school for practice, and that is just speaking about girl’s soccer. I don’t know about baseball, softball and boy’s soccer. At least we had YSI to turn to for games, though, oh so different from the places we went to play away games!

I am so happy that all Lawrence High School sports will be at LHS, and from experience, I really do think the neighbors will learn to enjoy it.
