New Sixth Street turn lane approved

A proposed western Lawrence shopping center won another key approval from City Hall on Tuesday.

City commissioners at their weekly meeting unanimously approved plans for a new right turn lane on Sixth Street between Wakarusa Drive and Champion Lane.

The new turning lane would serve the proposed Bauer Farm development that plans to add retail stores — including a CVS drug store — on the northeastern corner of Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive.

The turning lane and median improvements on Wakarusa Drive are expected to cost $800,000. The developers would pay for the entire project.

Mayor Mike Dever was absent from Tuesday’s meeting.
