Students learn about bobcats after reported sighting

Students at Quail Run School received a lesson on bobcats Tuesday after a neighbor reported seeing two large bobcats near the school Monday.

The neighbor said she saw the wild animals, which she said appeared friendly, in her yard on Monday morning, said Debbie Tann, Quail Run principal. The bobcats reportedly ran from Moundridge Drive toward the playground of the school, 1130 Inverness Drive.

Teachers were notified about the spotting so they could keep an eye out for the bobcats during recess and as school dismissed for the day. A note was also sent home with students to inform their parents of the sighting, as many students walk to and from the school.

On Tuesday, Tann said the school informed the curious students about bobcats, including what they look like, how they operate and what they eat.

No additional sightings have been reported in the area, Tann said.
