In defense of KU

To the editor:

In the first page article of Nov. 16, “Meet Joe College,” T-shirt entrepreneur Larry Sinks states his belief that Lew Perkins and Kansas University are persecuting him and infringing upon his rights. The tone of this article clearly presents Sinks’ point of view and comes close to making him out to be a victim. What’s missing is that it does not define the obligations and rights that KU must defend.

This is not a First Amendment matter, but simply a rights holder defending his property, reputation and established values. The mark holder is in constant jeopardy of losing his exclusive rights should he NOT display evidence of his vigilant defense and pursuit of illegal or detrimental usage of his property.

Sinks is treating the defenders of the university’s property as if they had a personal vendetta against him, when they are simply exercising the required defense of their rights.
