Teen hospitalized after being hit by car at Sixth Street and Monterey Way

A Lawrence teenager was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being hit by a car in Lawrence.

Lance Patty, 16, told police he was on his way to the Centennial Skateboard Park about 12:15 p.m. when the accident happened at the intersection of Sixth Street and Monterey Way.

Patty was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that he was in good condition.

Chris Watkins, of Lawrence, the 17-year-old driver involved in the accident, reported that Patty entered the road in front of him, police said. A police spokeswoman said she didn’t have information that indicated whether Patty was riding a skateboard during the accident.

Police said Patty failed to yield the right of way and disobeyed the traffic signal.
