To the editor:

I would like to express my thanks to the staff of Hy-Vee, 3504 Clinton Parkway, for the free breakfast they made available to area veterans in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

This was the second year my wife and I have attended this event and we have enjoyed participating. The staff was extremely courteous, their efforts reflected in the large number of veterans who attended.

By reading the hats and clothing, all five services were represented: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. I know the veterans and their spouses who attended appreciated this generous act of thanks by Hy-Vee to veterans for their service, in peace and war. For many veterans, the period of their service was long ago, but as anyone who has served in the military can attest, it remains a significant part of their lives. Hy-Vee did well with this simple act of appreciation to area veterans.

David L. Teska,
