Rep.-elect Lynn Jenkins is hoping for seats on the Armed Services and Financial Services committees, and she's ready to "call folks out" as a new member of the House's Republican minority.
Jenkins, a two-term state treasurer, unseated Democratic Rep. Nancy Boyda on Nov. 4 in the state's 2nd Congressional District. She plans to go to Washington next week for freshmen orientation and to participate in House leadership elections.
She said Friday that the Armed Services Committee is a goal because the district includes Forts Leavenworth and Riley. And the Financial Services Committee is important because of the economy.
As for her role in a Congress controlled by Democrats, she said she'll work with the majority party. But, she said, Republicans have a duty to speak out when they don't like the direction Democrats are pursuing.
She'll be sworn in Jan. 6.
