Teach the facts

To the editor:

A true story. On Nov. 4, a grandfather took his 8-year-old granddaughter with him to the polls. She participated in Kids Voting while he voted in the regular election. Afterward he asked his granddaughter how she liked the experience. She said it was fun and she voted for Obama because her third-grade teacher at school told the class that “Obama would end the war, and McCain wouldn’t.”

This is an example of what is happening in our public school system. It isn’t right. Teachers should stick to teaching known facts and not speculation. They should keep their opinions to themselves. After all, the opinions of youngsters, and especially third-graders, can easily be swayed by teachers and other authority figures.
