Benefit to aid brain cancer patient

The owners of Vermont Street BBQ are having a benefit for a Lawrence Memorial Hospital nurse who is fighting brain cancer.

Megan Boyd, a Lawrence resident who works in the surgery department at LMH, was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor. She had surgery on Oct. 17 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., to remove as much of the tumor as possible. She currently is undergoing additional treatment.

To help pay for medical costs, Lauren and Shad Woodworth are having a $10 barbecue buffet and donating all proceeds to Boyd. The buffet will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at Vermont Street BBQ, 728 Mass. Children can eat free.
