Art, play to focus on violence awareness

GaDuGi SafeCenter is presenting two events at the Lawrence Arts Center on Friday and Saturday to promote awareness about sexual violence.

“Art and Conversation: The Suitcase Project” is an art installation by women survivors of sexual violence. The event is from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 N.H. Old suitcases have been transformed into representations of women’s narratives about sexual violence.

The creators participated in an eight-week workshop sponsored by GaDuGi SafeCenter with a grant from the Office of the Attorney General State Crime Victim’s Assistance Fund.

The event is in conjunction with the play, “Crossroads,” created by high school students in Lawrence and co-sponsored by the safe center, arts center and City Youth Theater Program.

The play was written and created by teens along with professional theater artists. It’s about choices teens make. A discussion will follow.

The play is at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center. For tickets, call 843-2787.
