Motorcyclist injured on I-70

Lawrence police and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical responded to a motorcycle injury accident at milepost 203 in the eastbound lane of Interstate 70, just east of the East Lawrence interchange.

Kansas Turnpike Authority said Barclay Garret Mead, a 39-year-old Topeka resident, had severe injuries and was flown by air ambulance to a Stormont-Vail Healthcare in Topeka.

The accident occurred about 9:40 p.m.

KTA reported that Mead’s Harley Davidson motorcycle swerved into the left lane when he merged onto I-70 from the interchange. His motorcycle struck a 2007 Chevrolet. Authorities identified the driver of the Chevrolet as Steven K. Riemer, a 51-year-old Shawnee resident.

Mead’s condition was not immediately available Sunday morning.
