Downtown Tonganoxie business closes

A downtown Tonganoxie business has closed because of more than $30,000 in delinquent sales taxes.

The Kansas Department of Revenue and Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Office recently executed tax warrants filed in Leavenworth County District Court against The Light Bulb Place, which was owned by Tamara S. and Bryan D. Kemp.

All known bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory and personal property assets belonging to the owners were seized and the business was sealed closed, according to the KDOR. Seized assets will be sold at a public auction and the proceeds will be applied toward paying the delinquent taxes.

Tax delinquency warrants were executed for four separate cases, between January 2005 and March 2007, for a total of $30,696.
