President Bush on Thursday recognized Ashley Knight, 25, a Lawrence native and a senior at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry, for her community service efforts.

Knight received the Volunteer Service Award during a ceremony at New Century Airport in Gardner. Knight is a volunteer with Students Take Action, a program started by dental students to promote community service. Knight organizes and recruits volunteers to perform screenings and dental care at the Kansas City Free Health Clinic and Olathe Clinic.

She also organized Shear Madness, an annual STA fundraiser to send children with cancer to Camp Quality summer camp at no charge. Through the program, dental students, faculty and staff raised funds by accepting bids to cut their hair or shave their heads. This year, the program collected $11,000, and Knight donated 10 inches of her hair to Locks of Love.

Bush has met with more than 600 volunteers across the U.S. since March 2002 to promote community volunteerism.

Bush stopped at the airport on his way to a Republican fundraiser in Bucyrus.

Dear Dictator Bush, Normally, I would be more than willing to accept an award from the president of the United States. However, as you are not actually president, but a dictator, and I would rather be bitten to death by ravenous rats on PCP, I must turn down your offer. If you have any more awards to give out, please present them to whoever is spearheading campaigns to have you impeached. Sincerly, Average American Citizen(The above post was made in jest, but makes you wonder)

It shouldn't matter if you like him or dislike him. It is a great thing to get recognized for your volunteer efforts by the President of the United States. Way to go Ashley!

Not to take away from Ashley Knight, but what about some presidential praise from the local anarchist group that has been helping out around the country??

way to go ms. Knight. wow, you're really doing great things and you certainly deserved recognition! we are proud of you. delusionalbear, you really are a sad individual.
recognize the local anarchists, like for having to be removed by force from greensbg because you didn't respect the necessary martial law? ***bucyrus, wow, what's there anyway.

"...eats fast food nearly 100% of the time and cognitive function has been notably compromised."+++Really?Never heard that theory.I like it though.I mean,it answers many, many questions.

Only thing in Bucyrus is one of those stinking Westar COAL power plants.... that probably ships its power to Missouri anyways.

Ashley,Pay no mind to the people who want to drag you down over this. You have every right to be proud of your work.Their idea of acceptable official recognition is inviting the country's most prolific abortionists to Cedar Crest. And then lying about it.

indeed, you earned the great praise Ms. Knight! You deserve recognition by the Big Guy. ***and centerville, you got it, here big contrast, Bush honors a selfless volunteer who has probably helped thousands to live better lives; governor Billious honors tiller the killer who has killed thousands of lives and left many women with post abortion syndrome psych problems. big contrast.
