One of the city’s larger – and more disruptive – road projects will begin this week.

Construction crews will close the intersection of 19th and Louisiana streets on Tuesday. The intersection will remain closed to all traffic through early August. But contractors are under a deadline to get the project done before classes resume at adjacent Lawrence High School.

The project will rebuild the intersection with larger turn lanes, a new traffic signal and more durable pavement.

The city also has announced that work on the much-discussed downtown repaving project will begin on June 4.

Weather permitting, Massachusetts Street from Sixth to Eighth streets will be closed to traffic from June 9 to June 13. If there are no weather delays, the portion of Massachusetts Street from Eighth to 10th streets will close June 16 to June 20. Massachusetts from 10th to North Park Street will close from June 23 to June 27.

Work then will move onto portions of Seventh Street and Kentucky Street.
