Band assistance

To the editor:

It is commendable Coach Bill Self is helping his assistant coaches and staff receive more salary and is obtaining better living conditions for the athletes. Jayhawker Towers has been in need of renovation for several years.

In all of these considerations, I hope there will be something for the KU Band. The band members pay fees for uniforms, use of and insurance of school-owned instruments, marching band shoes and dry cleaning of band uniforms.

The band plays for all home football games and some away games – in all kinds of weather. They also play pep rallies, parades and games. Performances at games include the pregame march into the stadium, pregame field performance, halftime show, playing during the game and a post-game concert.

During basketball season, the KU Pep Band truly entertains before, during and after the games. Anyone fortunate enough to have heard the ensemble perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” on senior night can attest to the fact they are an excellent performance group.

The bands add to the fun and excitement of the games. Those who make the decisions should give some help to these musical groups too.
