State Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence, recently led a discussion at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regarding electric transmission line technologies and public policies.

Sloan organized the discussion group that included transmission operators, equipment manufacturers and public policy-makers. Two FERC commissioners and more than 50 staff members participated as observers and posed questions to panel members.

Sloan also participated as one of 30 people from across the country in the first meeting of the U.S. Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee.

Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman appointed Sloan to the committee, to represent the interests of state legislators.

The committee is charged with making policy recommendations for the next presidential administration regarding "smart grid" and energy-storage technologies.

FERC is one of the most politicized agencies in an administration that politicized everything, with the primary goal to favor monied, vested interests, including the coal industry. Sloan's participation in this meeting, along with his support for the coal power plants in Holcomb, call into question whose interests he represents-- those of his district, or?

If there is one thing Tom Sloan is good at it is holding meetings.

Hmmm...I wonder if that is what you get when Democrats in Lawrence vote for a Republican? What did you expect? He followed the Republican lead on the coal plants. Did you really expect him not to?
