To the editor:

This past week, I received a fundraising letter from Sen. Pat Roberts, and was disgusted at the bipartisan, red-baiting, fear-mongering and greedy tone of the letter. I thought of this letter when I read the editorial and story about legislation concerning a possible new GI Bill (Journal-World, May 19).

Since Sen. Roberts touts himself as “second to none in supporting our military,” I thought that I’d check to see where he stood on this issue. Not surprisingly, the flag-waving and excuse-making Roberts belongs to that group of senators who are reluctant to tax the ultra-wealthy to help fund this legislation. Here’s proof positive of the adage that “patriotism is the last refuge of a senator.”
