Annexation near I-70 to be revisited today

Two recent issues will be revisited tonight by the Douglas County Commission.

Commissioners will formally vote on a resolution that would clear the way for the city of Lawrence to annex nearly 160 acres north of the Interstate 70 Lecompton interchange. The annexation is sought by developers wanting to build an industrial or business park.

Last week Commissioners Jere McElhaney and Bob Johnson said they approved of a resolution that says annexation of the property “will not hinder or prevent growth and development of the area or that of any other incorporated city in Douglas County.” Commissioner Charles Jones said he would vote against the resolution.

Commissioners also will discuss possible revision of a policy on the sounding of tornado sirens.

Commissioners meet at 6:35 p.m. today in the Douglas County Courthouse, 1100 Mass.
