To the editor:

The Lawrence Meals On Wheels board of directors and staff would like to thank the Lawrence community for their help in making our fourth annual Charity Auction at Alvamar Country Club our most successful event yet! A special thanks to our event sponsors. We are so grateful to the over 200 businesses and individuals who donated to the event, as well as each of this year’s record number of attendees.

This year’s event was held to raise funds to help pay for the over 80 percent of our clients that need financial assistance to receive our services. For over 38 years, Meals On Wheels has not turned anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay. This wouldn’t have been possible without the continued support of the Lawrence community for our program, which serves approximately 115 meals per day to homebound elderly and/or disabled clients who have a special dietary need and are unable to prepare meals on their own.

We would also like to thank our volunteers who deliver Meals On Wheels each and every week, providing not only a nutritious meal but also a friendly face and a daily check on those who are trying to maintain their independence. We definitely couldn’t do it without you!
