Lone Star Lake will be closed Monday through Wednesday to all fishing and swimming activities while a herbicide is applied to some submerged vegetation.
The herbicide, Aquathol-K, is used to treat curly leaf pond weed. The vegetation's growth interferes with the use of boat docks in the southwest arm of the lake, Douglas County Public Works director Keith Browning said. The treatment will be limited to the vicinity of those boat docks.
The Lone Star Lake Cabin Owners' Association pays for the herbicide. A fisheries biologist from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks will accompany workers applying the herbicide. Aquathol-K is approved by the federal Environmental Protection Agency for aquatic use.
Swimming and fishing can resume in appropriate areas on Thursday.
