Firebirds one win from state after blowout

Free State to meet Olathe Northwest tonight

Free State High’s baseball team advanced to championship of its 6A regional with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Leavenworth Thursday afternoon at FSHS.

Senior left-hander Caleb Gress tossed five innings of perfect ball. Gress fanned five, and the Pioneers hit only one ball out of the infield.

Center fielder Adam Rock went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base to lead a nine-hit attack.

The Firebirds (18-2) will meet Olathe Northwest, a 4-0 winner over Junction City, in Thursday night’s 7 p.m. game at FSHS for the right to go to the state tournament.
