Christopher Wempe, a 20-year-old Kansas University student in the School of Engineering, died Monday in Lincoln, Neb.

“On behalf of the entire KU community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Chris Wempe. Our hearts go out to them at this difficult time,” KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway said in a statement released Tuesday.

Wempe died of “an acute illness,” according to information from the family. No additional information on the cause of death was immediately available.

Wempe was born in Seneca. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Seneca.
