To the editor:

As a daily subscriber, I have been inundated by advertisements regarding what my husband or children should purchase for me in honor of Mother’s Day.

What do mothers really want?

Let’s see, quality yet affordable child care would be a start. Someone could fix the No Child Left Behind act. Why not finish the farm (food) bill so that it doesn’t reward greed, but helps hungry families? Medical care for mothers who are un- or under-insured would be helpful so that we can live, and take good care of our children. Maybe Congress could un-deregulate the economy (see the Commodity Futures Modernization Act from December 2000), and our economy could stop imploding.

Drivers could respect speed limits to keep Lawrence a little safer. Fathers could do a little more. Employers could modify their policies as to not punish or discriminate against mothers in the work force who are responsible for raising the next generation, as well as bills. These are just a few suggestions, but I’ll settle for another fistful of dandelions and a mud pie.
