City tennis players ousted

? Free State High’s Michael Swank won his first-round singles match, as did the FSHS doubles team of Blaine Keahr and Charlie Moffett, but the Firebirds’ Class 6A state run ended in the quarterfinals.

Swank defeated Wichita East’s Alex Tretbar, 6-1, 6-1, in Friday’s opener, but fell to Chris Fotopoulos of Shawnee Mission East, 6-3, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.

Similarly, Kaehr-Moffett beat Wichita Heights’ Saif Kahn and Sean Rothwell, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, in the opening round, but fell to Blue Valley North’s Hank Lee and Eric Sock, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Lawrence High’s Ryan Abbott and Taylor Seratte suffered a first-round loss to Washburn Rural’s Jason Lepse and Bronson Brassel.
