District retirees to be honored

Lawrence schools, the teachers association and the school district will honor dozens of retirees at several receptions this month.

The district and Lawrence Education Association Annual Recognition Reception for all retiring teachers, administrators and staff members will be 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive.

School receptions currently scheduled:

¢ 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at Free State High's library.

¢ 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Langston Hughes School for Jane Buxton, a former teacher at Langston Hughes and current reading coach at Woodlawn.

¢ 4 p.m. Tuesday at Kennedy School.

¢ 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at East Heights Early Childhood and Family Center.

¢ 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wakarusa Valley School gymnasium.

¢ 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 19 at Schwegler School gymnasium.

¢ 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 28 at the district's Facilities and Operations Maintenance Shop, 146 Maine.

¢ 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 1 at Langston Hughes, to honor administrative assistant Sherry Banker.

The district has released these names as retirees for this year and their years working in Lawrence schools:

Sherry Banker, Langston Hughes administrative assistant, 24 years; Eloise Bornheim, the district's accounts payable supervisor, 22 years; Gerald Dean Bulleigh, custodial supervisor, 22 years; Jane Buxton, Woodlawn reading coach, 29 years; Doran Chaput, Hillcrest second-grade teacher, 30 years; Tim Clark, electrician, 18 years; Teresa Clough, West Junior High guidance counselor, 32 years; Phyllis Copt, Free State English teacher, 28 years; Jan Dicker, Sunset Hill first-grade teacher, 24 years; Nancy Dietze, Quail Run sixth-grade teacher, 21 years; Michel J. Eltschinger, division director of technology and former principal, 28 years; Kathleen Erickson, Southwest Junior High administrative assistant, 13 years; Janet Fike, West family and consumer sciences teacher, 31 years; Cecile Gonzalez, Kennedy Title 1 math teacher, 16 years; Sharon Hull, Schwegler paraeducator, 24 years; Bobbi Kellum, Schwegler food services site manager, 10.5 years; Judith Kettle, Wakarusa Valley, first-grade teacher, 32 years; Betty Lynn, Free State guidance counselor, 20 years; Dianne L. Merz, Sunset Hill sixth-grade teacher, 25 years; Kathy Lankston Minden, Prairie Park first-grade teacher, four years; Harry Morgan, West head custodian, 25 years; Sharie Mueller, Southwest and West family and consumer sciences teacher, five years; Jon Murphy, Southwest English as a second language teacher, 13 years; Cathy Myers, Broken Arrow library media specialist, 20 years; Harold Nelson, Quail Run guidance counselor, 18 years; James Nye, South Junior High industrial arts teacher, 32 years; Debora Pentecost, Quail Run fifth-grade teacher, 29 years; Janet Ross, Lawrence High computer studies teacher, 26 years; Cindy Sears, Southwest art teacher, 26 years; Joe Snyder, Free State principal, 15 years; Donald Spradlin, Broken Arrow head custodian, 19.5 years; Caprice Thompson, East Heights speech and language pathologist, 29 years; Larry Walker, Wakarusa Valley head custodian, 14 years; Linda Young, South math teacher, 31 years.
