City leaders will be giving out free bike helmets to children at an event on Saturday.

The city's annual helmet fair will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lawrence High School, 1901 La. The event will provide a free helmet to Lawrence youths who attend and get custom-fitted for a helmet.

The fair also will feature free bike repair, a bike rodeo, an obstacle course and lessons in bike trail etiquette. For people who can't attend the event, youths may be fitted for a free helmet at any time of the year at any Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical station.
