Kansas University’s Studio 804 received a major gift last week from an Internet giant.
The graduate-level architecture program that built a new art center for tornado-ravaged Greensburg received $100,000 from Google for the studio’s endowment. The endowment will be used to fund the studio for years into the future.
While the studio typically builds a house in northeast Kansas and sells it for a handsome profit, the sale price doesn’t always cover the costs. The Greensburg project also presented major funding concerns.
Ideally, with an endowment, the program can eventually procure permanent space and more easily cover its costs.
