Saturday program focuses on Latino arts

The Centro Hispano Resource Center seeks volunteers to help with Sábados Culturales, a summer Latin American arts and culture program for Lawrence youths.

The program will be from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday beginning June 7, and will include workshops on Latino arts, dance, culture and language. Volunteers do not need to speak Spanish. For more information, contact Lydia Leon at 843-2039 or lydia@centrohispanolawrence.org.

Immediate needs

¢ The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department seeks volunteers to act as patients for a mock clinic from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Volunteers will be given cards with information to fill out on their health history forms, and the exercise should take about 15 to 20 minutes. Volunteers will also be helping professionals become more prepared in the event of a real public health emergency. Contact Kim Ens at 843-3060 for more information.

¢ Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living needs a volunteer bingo caller from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, and Thursday, May 22. Contact Cindy Gustafson at (785) 344-1113 for more information.

¢ Douglas County Senior Services seeks a volunteer to fill a receptionist position two to three mornings or afternoons a week. The position includes answering the phone and greeting visitors in the lobby area. Contact Tina Roberts at 842-0543.

¢ KVC Behavioral HealthCare Inc. is looking for a volunteer to tutor a 6-year-old four to five hours a week throughout the summer. Potential volunteers will need a Child Abuse and Neglect Check from the state and a KBI check, which the agency will provide.
