Burglaries and thefts reported

¢ According to Westar Energy, power was restored for all but one location in Douglas County by 10 p.m. following Friday’s early morning storm. About 8,700 residents lost power about 1:30 a.m. when the storm’s strong winds caused damage. The total was down to about 90 by Friday night.

Eight Westar customers in Leavenworth County remain without power from a total of about 1,125 who were still without power by 10 p.m. Friday.

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 25-year-old Lawrence man Saturday after the man fled police in a car and later on foot. According to police Sgt. David Hubbel, the pursuit began when the man wouldn’t pull over for police to address an illegal tag on his car. The man sped away near 24th Street and Ridgecourt to an apartment complex at 1607 W. 24th St. The man ran out of his car and broke into an apartment room where he hid in a closet, Hubbel said. Police found a loaded pistol in the vehicle. The man arrested was also driving with a suspended license, without proof of insurance and had no vehicle registration. This incident occurred at about 5:10 p.m.

Injury accidents

¢ Two women were taken to area hospitals following an injury accident late Saturday morning after a two-vehicle collision on the Kansas Highway 10 bypass. A car driven by Thea L. Warren, 36, Topeka, was heading east on the bypass, when a car driven by Lillian A. Dewey, 85, Lawrence, driving north on E. 1200 Road, struck Warren’s car. Warren’s vehicle was hit on the passenger side, and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical and the Kansas Highway Patrol responded to the incident at 11:10 a.m. Both women were taken by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.
