Hannes Combest is leaving Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Lawrence, for the top job at the National Auctioneers Association in Overland Park.
Combest, managing director of member programs at the superintendents association, starts work June as the auctioneers' chief executive officer. She will take over for Bob Shively, who is departing in August after nine years as CEO.
The auctioneers group, founded in 1949, represents the interests of about 6,000 auctioneers in the United States and abroad. More than $270.7 billion in goods and services were sold at auction last year, according to the association.
Combest, a Lawrence resident, is a graduate of both Kansas and Baker universities. She earned the Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation in 2001.
She spent 10 years as a professor of journalism and assistant to the president at Haskell Indian Nations University before joining the superintendents' association staff in 1996 as manager of education. Her last day at the superintendents association will be May 28.
