Courage

To the editor:

I see in the April 28 paper that U.S. Reps. Nancy Boyda and Dennis Moore had the courage to vote for those of us who work for a living who believe that the tax breaks should be given to someone other than the top 5 percent. Jim Ryun, Lynn Jenkins and Nick Jordan, their Republican opponents, were quick to jump on this budget resolution vote and proclaim once again that Democrats are the tax-and-spend party.

Do they really believe that Kansans are that stupid? George Bush and his Republican colleagues in Congress, including those from Kansas, have run up a debt that will cost every American $36,000. My great-grandchildren will be paying for this bad joke. They start an unwinnable war, create the largest debt in U.S. history, and cut taxes for the richest 5 percent. To add insult to injury, China is one of the primary countries loaning us the money to stay afloat. Try to imagine what it’s going to be like when China demands we pay our debt, or do their bidding.

Thank you, Nancy Boyda and Dennis Moore, for supporting and representing the people of Kansas.

E. Kent Hayes,
