Light complaint

To the editor:

I know you Prius drivers are trying to be green, but it is extremely dangerous, and also illegal, for you to be driving without your headlights operating during adverse conditions. For example, Friday morning, in the heavy fog, everyone else had their headlights on. And no, your parking lights alone won’t do.

Kansas Statute 8-1703 (www.kslegislature.org) requires all of us when driving to operate our headlights from sunset to sunrise, when there is insufficient light or unfavorable conditions, or when needing to use the wipers. Motorcycles must use their lights at all times. Those few drops of gas you’re saving aren’t nearly as important as respecting the law. Nor are they worth the lives you may take, including your own, or the property damage you may cause by your negligence.
