Coal plant questions
To the editor:
It appears that the proposed coal-fired plant at Holcomb is for the benefit of residents of the Denver suburbs who want increased electrical power but object to a local plant. Some questions arise:
¢ Is not northeast Colorado closer to supplies of coal than southwest Kansas?
¢ How much actual power will be lost to the length of the transmission lines?
¢ What responsibility do Kansans bear for the comfort of suburbanites who suffer from NIMBY (not in my back yard) syndrome, and are we guilty of abetting intellectual dishonesty?
¢ Why coal at all? Nuclear has much more potential.
