Fundraiser nets $110K for mentoring agency

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Douglas County raised more than $110,000 during its Bowl For Kids’ Sake fundraiser this month.

Big Brothers Big Sisters, the nation’s oldest mentoring organization, uses Bowl For Kids’ Sake to increase community awareness about the organization and raise funds.

Each bowler who attended the event was greeted at the door by children and volunteers in the Douglas County Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Patti Broyles, the agency’s executive director, said 96 Douglas County children, most of whom are at-risk, are waiting to be matched to a caring, carefully screened volunteer mentor.
