Suspect in Last Call shooting back in town

The Topeka man suspected of shooting three people outside a Lawrence nightclub last month arrived at the Douglas County Jail on Sunday night after being transferred from Kentucky.

Carlos Jerome Jackson, 26, was arrested at a relative’s home in Hopkinsville, Ky., on Feb. 15 and waived his right to fight extradition to Lawrence.

He is accused of shooting two employees of Last Call, 729 N.H., and a 15-year-old boy early Feb. 10. Last Call owner Dennis Steffes has since closed the club and is facing an eviction lawsuit.

Jackson was booked at 5 p.m. Sunday on three charges of aggravated battery and an out-of-county warrant. Last week in the Christian County District Court in Hopkinsville, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of providing a false name to authorities.

Two Topeka women – Sherise Spears, 20, and Sonda M. Washington, 30 – are accused of helping Jackson after the shooting.
