Ex-Congressman weighs U.S. Senate run

Former Congressman Jim Slattery is interested again in running for the U.S. Senate.

He says he may take another look at the race.

But another Democrat already is campaigning, Overland Park railroad engineer Lee Jones.

He was making the rounds of meetings of party activists during Democrats’ annual Washington Days convention in Topeka.

Some Democrats expect a primary.

The winner would challenge incumbent Republican Pat Roberts in what would be a difficult race.

Slattery said in November that he wouldn’t challenge Roberts.

Olathe businessman Greg Orman then announced his candidacy, but he dropped out of the race earlier this month.

Slattery represented the 2nd Congressional District from 1983 to 1994.
