Ames, Iowa ? Bonnie Henrickson threw her Kansas University women’s basketball players under the bus the other night.

Henrickson, now in her fourth season as the Jayhawks’ coach, made little effort to hide her displeasure following Wednesday’s 57-53 home loss to Texas.

“We just keep making the same mistakes,” Henrickson said. “And it makes no sense that we’re making the same mistakes.”

Scraping bottom in the Big 12 Conference turnover category, Kansas will try to snap a three-game losing streak today when it meets Iowa State.

Tipoff will be at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. The game will be televised in Iowa, but not in Kansas.

Two weeks ago, the Jayhawks were talking postseason. They had won three of four and were sitting on a 15-9 record with five regular-season games remaining.

But then KU dropped three straight to Big 12 second-division teams, including last-place Missouri, and the postseason light at the end of the tunnel became a black hole.

The final straw was the loss to the Longhorns. KU led by as many as nine points early in the second half, then relinquished the lead in the last minute and a half and couldn’t regain it.

In her postgame media session, Henrickson harped on the Jayhawks ongoing propensity for “bonehead plays” and their maddening inability to hold leads.

“It’s the total truth. We’re not finishing,” sophomore Sade Morris said of Henrickson’s diatribe. “She knows we’re better than we’re playing.”

In Lawrence, Kansas (15-12 overall, 4-10 Big 12) edged Iowa State, 53-50, on Groundhog Day as Krysten Boogaard scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds.

Iowa State (17-10, 6-8) lost its starting frontline – Tocarra Ross and Nicky Wieben – to knee injuries in December, but still has a shot at a postseason appearance.
