A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper and a Baldwin City police officer exchange words as area law enforcement officials were investigating a scene Monday afternoon near North 200 and East 2050 roads. A report of a missing person in the area led to the investigation.
Hours after an abandoned car with blood in and around it was reported near the Black Jack Battlefield east of Baldwin City, Douglas County Sheriff's officers located a missing woman Monday night in a nearby cornfield.
Douglas County Sheriff's Lt. Kari Wempe said that around 7:30 p.m. Monday officers located a 52-year-old woman who had been reported missing in Gardner.
Officers had been searching a cornfield when they made contact with the woman.
"We were close and she came from the trees," Wempe said. "She made herself known to officers."
The woman was located about a half-mile from the abandoned vehicle near the Black Jack Battlefield, three miles east of Baldwin City.
Wempe said the woman was suffering from self-inflicted wounds and was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Baldwin City Police and the Kansas Highway Patrol, including a KHP helicopter, participated in the search, which lasted more than six hours.

that was because the only evidence they have of a missing person seems to be the *blood trail*!
if I'm reading this right, the headline and the story are completely sensationalized/skewed!
headline:
“blood trail in cornfield east of baldwin, police investigating!”
***
now, as to cause, anybody know anything about John Brown's ghost?
and, do they even know this is human blood now? if there was blood there, shouldn't there have been footprints too?

That's not what they said…..There is no indication of “evidence”……I would think that Law Enforcement Officials would investigate the “blood trail” first to to see if it is human or animal……My question is why would they even mention a “missing person”. But as you well know the ljworld is first to break the news no matter how accurate it is……….

Quantity of blood might be one factor. Let's also remember the LJW's penchant for leaving out important details.
Hey, maybe there's a red truck there.

So, who was in the corn field to spot the blood? Did the blood trail lead to somewhere as did the woman who got her logs cut off and the grocery cart wheeled her to the river. The cart coming from Waymire's. Kinda hard to see a blood trail from the highway, so who knows about the blood trail? Someone must have called authorities after discovering a trail to where?

I agree with Marion too. However, they really needed to leave the missing person part out of it. They dont know if its a missing person or not. Someone could have pulled over and was fixing a vehicle and cut themselves and had another vehicle with a friend behind them and drove off. A couple of years ago the same thing happened and the guy ended up calling someone from the cell to take him home cause he was too drunk to drive and was puking up blood everywhere. Im not saying this could not be serious cause it very well may be but you really need to take a look at the shoddy (Marion am I saying that right? at least I didnt put udderly shoddy lol) reporting here. There could be lot of reasons for this situation. As for the question about who found blood in the cornfield. Lots of farmers go out and check on their fields sometimes up to 4 times a day to make sure there arent any different kinds of bugs etc taking their crop so they can get on top of it as soon as possible. With the rain being the way it has my family has checked quite a bit. It could have just been a trooper that found it too. That seems to be a place for them where I see them set up thier speed traps alot. It hasnt been a lovers lane for a while now since the troopers have set up shop with the traps there. I pulled over to change a diaper on my child there once and got the 3rd degree from a trooper for doing that. No one stays parked there anymore and it seems they do not want anyone visiting there thats for sure.

a car. however, now I'm *more confused*!
earlier, it says there was a report of a missing person in the area.
later, it lists authorities who had no report of a missing person.
huh?
thanks for fixing the headline as I suggested! thanks for the increased info, but it is still confusing LJW!

suicide gesture. siggy is right, she didn't kill herself, and she can come back. she may have been conflicted about actually killing herself.
bad news, lawrence's protocol for dealing with suicidal people is still not what it should be. and, we need an lmh mental health ward! so, she doesn't get shipped off to the big O. her family and friends, support, is likely here!
what if we took the 2% for art and made it 2% to save lives from suicide?
I pray she gets good treatment!

Unfortunately, this forum has become a place where many frequent posters rush to write whatever clever comment they think will get a big laugh from the other regulars. To them, this IS a game, one that often disregards the fact that the articles in the JW are about real people with real troubles who live in our community.
I suspect I speak for many readers in hoping that your friend fully recovers and never hits bottom again.

the law enforcement people here *saved a life*! one of the most basic functions of government/law enforcement!
your comment betrays a complete lack of understanding of mental illness. in fact, I'm surprised the ljworld didn't yank your stinking post!

you ask the law enforcement officers: they'll all tell you this is a good day for them and they are glad they had a life to save. so often they deal with death, evil, crime, etc. this time, a woman will live another day.

Just to give some more info. to this story….
It was a family memeber of mine that found the car. It was on a dead end road where we have some farm ground. He was going up to work the ground and the car was parked in the way of getting into the field. He called the authorities and they came out to begin looking. He continuted to work the ground and he never saw the woman, so she must have been hiding from people. He never saw a trail of blood, just blood in the vehicle.

she wasn't hiding from anyone she was confused about where she was she saw the helicopter and tried to flag it down but was unable she was missing for quite a while with no food or drink and also very weak, she was almost 1 and a half miles from the car, then she walked to a nearby greenhouse where a lady notified the police and she was then takin by ambulance to the hospital. she was not found by the police as ljw stated. again thank you to all who prayed or showed concern as i am good friends with the family and she is doing better!
